Can I use one of my Directv HD set top boxes at a friends house?

Yes you can. If your friend still has the dish in the exact same position it's always been then it will work. If the dish has moved then it would have to be realigned. Do it before the superbowl to see if it is still aligned. Hook it up then check signal strength in the receivers menu.
