How to say SORRY to a guy friend?

So my guy friend heard a rumor that i was starting a rumor that we were going out.....i did NOT start that rumor....But now he was texing and saying that he was over middle schoolers, he's in 9th grade. I dont kno how to say sorry to this, plz help?
