How do i reserve the rights of a company name?

I would like to set up a design website and would like to know how to reserve the rights or copyright or trademark (i don't know the difference?) my company name? Furthermore could you tell me the costs of this and the rough costs of setting up a website that simply shows a portfolio of what i have done and gives them contact details.
