In search of a good toning cream?

i am dark in complexion (african) and have been searching for a good toning cream espescially for my face! i have had issues with pimples in the past and they left me with a lot of spots but have managed to fade somehow eventually. friends suggest palmers fade cream but i am fed up with try and error i want to have that radiant bright well toned skin please any suggestions?
